Crispy Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries: 5-Step Grill Side

  • Author: Liliana
  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

These crispy air fryer sweet potato fries are the perfect grill side, offering a shattering crunch without the mess of deep frying. Paired with a legendary smoky-spicy honey dip, they deliver bold flavor and healthy-ish indulgence in under 25 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large sweet potatoes (approx. 1.5 lbs / 680g)
  • 2 tbsp avocado oil
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/4 cup raw honey
  • 1 smoky chipotle pepper (or 1 tsp adobo sauce)
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 clove garlic, minced

Instructions

  1. Wash, peel, and cut sweet potatoes into 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick sticks. Soak in cold water for 10-15 minutes to remove excess starch, then drain and pat very dry with paper towels.
  2. In a large bowl, toss dry fries with cornstarch, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and salt until evenly coated and dusty. Drizzle with avocado oil and toss again until lightly glistening.
  3. Preheat air fryer to 390°F (200°C). Arrange fries in a single layer in the basket without overlapping. Cook for 12-15 minutes, shaking the basket every 4-5 minutes, until golden brown and firm.
  4. While fries cook, whisk together raw honey, minced chipotle pepper (and adobo sauce), lime juice, soy sauce, and minced garlic in a small bowl until smooth.
  5. Serve fries immediately while hot and crunchy, with the smoky spicy honey dip on the side.

Notes

Do not skip soaking the potatoes to remove surface starch. Ensure fries are completely dry before cooking to prevent steaming. Cook in single layers to avoid overcrowding, which leads to soggy fries. Reheat leftovers in the air fryer at 390°F for 3-4 minutes to restore crispiness.
